Dublin has had 6 venues staging the sport. This page concerns itself
with: - Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium, South Lofts Rd., Ringsend, Dublin
where racing was held in 1950-54, 1961 and 1970-71

John says: These are the Shelbourne Tigers 1950. Mike Erskine, Cyril Brine, Ernie
Roccio and Jack Wright, Wimbledon promoter Ronnie Green brought his
riders over to Ireland every week to race against selected British
teams. A very ambitious move for 1950. Surely in the
Sky Sports era (2008 at time of writing this) it would be possible
to include Dublin in some meaningful speedway?

Also from 1950. I cannot make out any of the riders but what about the crowd.
Dubliners obviously supported speedway well, so what happened? Maybe
there weren't enough venues around Ireland to provide any regular league
matches etc? If you know the history of Irish speedway please get in
touch John

This page now has a programme thanks to Mike Moseley The Interval
attraction is shown as a Talent Contest. I just wonder what talent
my local side Newcastle would get as a interval attraction! I could
always play the spoons!

Irish fans may not have had a speedway
structure like the rest of the UK but their representative teams
had the likes of Ronnie Moore and Belle Vue visitor Peter Craven
to ensure they were seeing the best of speedway.
